About 2 weeks ago we had TS Debby visit our area leaving hundreds of homes & businesses either destroyed or heavily damaged by flood waters. Flooding has always been more destructive than wind as with wind damage you make repairs & move on.

Todays news headlines are all about the emergency FEMA offices being established & directing storm victims to visit these offices to make their claims.

Has our insurance industry abdicated our responsibility, should victims be lined up at insurance offices to make these claims? Just wondering.

Tim came to our NFAN 5/18 meeting in Tallahassee shortly after learning that one of his largest commercial accounts was being non renewed. He visited every company roundtable at the meeting, found one of our Partnership Companies willing to listen, earned a direct appointment with the company, managed to save the account & produce a nice bonus potential for his agency.

That is how you maximize the return on your investment in NFAN. Way to go, Tim Treweek!

Year end 2011 workers comp combined ratio for Florida comp carriers was 117! Probably means that the party may be over for declining rates & highly competitive marketplace for WC in our state.

Conventional wisdom is that the former walls between Captive Agency Companies, E&S brokers, Online wholesalers, etc are coming down.  What does this mean for conventional independent agencies like us?

I think that one thing it means is that we need to be very careful about who we choose to partner with.  Our 'partner' could end up becoming our competitor.

One investment that I have always received a great return on was the investment made in staff training classes.  The good news is that we are now receiving great support from our leading carriers.  Most of our lead carriers now offer training classes for producers and csr's that are either free or heavily discounted.
